T-Mobile MDA: device review

I have recently tested a T-Mobile MDA - one of the newest Windows Mobile 2005 devices on the market. This Windows Mobile phone is primarily indented for businessmen and geeks. In fact, I recommend this phone to anybody looking to impress his friends and associates with a really cool communicator.

T-Mobile MDA builds on previous Pocket PC phone devices and offers a valuable design improvement- full QWERTY keyboard. The device comes with 128MB of RAM and a 200 MHz processor and bright, colorful 240 by 320 LCD display that supports 65000 colors.

The back of the phone sports a 1.3 Mega-pixel digital camera that, by cell phone standards, offers a good picture quality for both still pictures and streaming video! The phone has a built -in Wi-Fi card that with Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP).

At 5.64 ounces, the phone is perceptibly heavier than a typical cell phone but is reasonably heavy for a typical communicator.

At $49.99 a month, phone allows unlimited emailing and Internet browsing at 9600 bps.
 

The main benefits to having this phone are:

• The phone comes with ActiveSync software that supports seamless PC connectivity and integration and has familiar PC like applications (Pocket Internet Explorer and Pocket Outlook)
• The phone supports thousands of applications written for Windows Mobile and Java based phones
• This is one of the newest and coolest Windows Mobile phones that few people have

The main drawbacks:

• The phone is made by HTC, that offers a variety of OEM phones to cell phone providers. HTC did a decent job with T-Mobil MDA, but it does not have the resources of a large cell phone manufacturer (e.g. Nokia, Motorola, Samsung). For example: when you turn the device on, geeky numbers show up on the phone start-up and continue to be displayed throughout the start-up process (about a minute)
• T-Mobile MDA is not as rugged a typical cell phone. If you drop it, you might break its fragile touch screen that costs around $100 to replace.
• The phone is heavier and bigger than a typical cell phone.
